I'm a total nerd, I get that.

Anyone here ever played with an arduino control board (It's an art-tech thing, often used for D.I.Y. interactive arts controllers, particularly for sound) for Electrical play? It's got powered outs, and you can specify/program and build it for your needs. I'm thinking it could make a wonderful battery powered estim toy... customizable and such. (runs off of a 9 volt)

If you have, I'd love to know what you've done with it.

I've used a similar board for an "intelligent" sex toy, and in the future will probably use arduino or work-alike boards like the sanguino or (new!) mega-arduino. FYI, an outline of my toy is described in a comment on a recent thread on tantalism.org , see
    tantalism.org/node/view/2027
One of my main interests for this type of toy is to use feedback (and randomization) to make the experience long and interesting....

For electrical play one would need a source of high-voltage (HV) electricity for the arduino to control. Absent a big stack of 9V batteries, this implies some sort of voltage step-up, a switching supply, a voltage doubler (or many stage version thereof) or similar. One thing to look into is hacking the battery-> HV supply in disposable flash cameras. (IMHO, stear clear of anything powered from 120 VAC.) And *limit* the current and/or duration of pulses.

Be extra *careful* both in building and using HV. I got an unpleasant lesson in how long the capacitors in those flash cameras can hold a charge -- weeks or more! (And I wasn't even doing something "interesting" with it at the time, just dis-assembling one for components.)

Controlling the HV will need components that can handle it, probably transistors/MOSFETs with high enough ratings. Another possibility, I suppose would be to have the controller send lower voltage/higher current pulses through step-up transformers, though you'd need 10:1 or better winding ratios to get good pulses.

Anyhow, these are some of my ideas for using a processor in a sex toy. FYI, you can reach me via impulse321 @t yah00 d0t c0m if you have comments/questions you'd like to pursue outside this tribe.
