if you strap the external probe (not sure of the terminology) to someone's body, thus making them the conduit. would they shock themselves if they touched their own body? or only other people?

    Only if the person touch someone else.

    Simplistically:
    The violet wand "creates" extra electrons. If you are connected to it through the external probe, then your body has all these electrons on it. If you touch yourself, the electrons aren't going anyplace, so there's no spark. It's only when someone or something else with a less-negative charge comes close that the electrons can "jump" to that other body, causing the spark and shock.
